Refabing of an Old Shirt

So if you know me you know that I love my music. Growing up I was privileged to go to many concerts. In my late teen years and on, I was lucky enough to find a great group of friends who loved the same music I did and went to concerts with me. Because I have been to so many concerts, I have a lot of concert and band shirts. Another thing, very few bands sell cute women shirts. Back in the day, they had "the babydoll tee" that was a one size fits all. And once you washed it, it began to fall apart. This meant I've always bought the "mens" tee which is pretty much never flattering on a woman and once you're out of high school and college, really makes you look like you're trying to be cool and/or young.

The other day I was on Pinterest (shocking) and I came across a Motley Crue shirt that someone was selling that had been refabbed (in my terms, refab means to be made fabulous again) for women. It was cute but I didn't want to order a shirt that was based on a 1980s shirt, I have a thing about buying these shirts because they just look retro for the wanna-bes and not authentic. Anyways, this made me start looking up ways to refab the shirts I already have but no longer wear out of the house.

This is my refabing of one of my band tees. Who knew it would be so simple.

    From this......

      To this!!

I cut the sleeves off, the neck line out, and then cut a a slit down the front so it would lay correctly, I cut the shoulder fabric so there was just about an inch width left. I then used the hem line from the old sleeves to make bows on the shoulders.

I also cut up the sides leaving about 3 or 4 inches of fabric bellow the armpit. Then I cut slits into the shirt and used ribbon to lace up the sides.

I also cut a little bit more fabric out of the back side of the neck to hang down more so I could show off my neck tattoo that never gets to be seen.

I love my new tank top band tee and can't wait to play around with another tee and refab it!

By the way, the band tee is from one of my cousin's bands back in high school. Sadly, I don't think they last too long but the shirt still was cool.

Accordian Book

So I was thinking I needed a book for a future project. The problem was, was that I needed all the pages to be seen at the same time.

*flashback to elementary school*

I remembered making accordian books 20 years ago but quickly forgot how to make something so simple. After ruining a few sheets of paper, I remembered how to make a large book big enough for photos.

Do you want to make one? Here's my how to:

What you need:
I used simple white 8.5 X 11 card stock I had left over from the wedding
Glue

Simple so far, right?

Ok, so take your paper...

Fold it in half, hamburger style...

Do the same thing to another piece of paper.

Now, it's time to glue them...

With one fold pointing up and one fold pointing down (the edge of the top paper will meet the fold of the top paper), glue it down.

Hopefully, you got something that looks like this.

Continue folding your papers in half and adding pages in the same way. To help me from gluing something down wrong, I would place the papers together and make sure it would lay correctly.

After you've added all of your pages it should look like this:

Because I wasn't sure how much paper I was going to need, with each fold I added a post-it note to the page with what would be on it.

Make sure, if you're using it as a book, that you have enough pages for a front cover and a back cover!

See. I told you it was simple.

Well I hoped you enjoyed your flashback to elementary school with me!

Happy Crafting!!

(Check back later, as in a few weeks, to see what I've done with my accordian book)

Valentines Day

If you are my husband stop reading now...

Girly stuff...
Girly stuff...
Girly stuff...
Girly stuff...

So I began doing the 14 Days of Valentines for Rob but quickly forgot to hide the items that I got for him. And since he has to study on Valentines Day night for his final the next day, we won't get to spend too much time together other than dinner. So instead, thanks to Pinterest and DIY Valentines Scavenger Hunt (where I got the letter and some clues), I decided I would do a scavenger hunt for my very special Valentine!!

I got the letter and message on the envelope from MisterBandMe's page (the link I provided). In the envelope, I added a puzzle piece. This will be hanging on the door of the apartment so he'll get it before he even comes in.

In all, I had 9 clues. In each envelope, I added another puzzle piece and a special treat.

Here are some pictures of some of my clues. Some I got from MisterB's blog and some I made myself.

Clue 1: February 14th, Full of red and pink - To find the next clue, Look under the _ _ _ _. (sink)
Clue 2: Roses are red, Violets are blue, For your next clue look in the _ _ _ _. (shoes)

Clue 3: If I was in trouble, You'd jump over hurdles. For your next clue,
Look under the _ _ _ _ _ _. (turtle)

Clue 4: I love you now and always will, You know these words are no lie. For your next clue, Look low and _ _ _ _! (high)

Clue 5: Our first date is in question, But our first kiss was at Howl's. To find your next clue, Look where we keep the _ _ _ _ _ _. (towels)

Clue 6: Good job! You found me, There's only one more-To finish this chase, Look behind the guestroom _ _ _ _. (door)

Clue 7: Haha, Just kidding- Dinner I'm making. Eat it, are you able? Your next clue must wait, Meet me at the _ _ _ _ _. (table)

Clue 8: They love you like crazy, Your little girl and boy. To find the next clue, Look where we keep their _ _ _ _. (toys)

Clue 9: Yah! You did it-Now wasn't that fun? Put the pieces together And you're almost done. Turn the puzzle over and see what you have won!

The last surprise is going to be our Valentines Day dessert on our bed with his Valentines Day card. Our room is where he studies so I thought that would be a good way to end the hunt all together.

Here's our bedroom door with a note to the scavenger hunter...

Just in case he thinks a clue is in there...

One final Valentine for my Valentine.

A little elephant with a card from me :)

Last but not least, our dessert. Two vanilla cupcakes with chocolate icing (I used an icing gun for the first time and hated it. It made my icing all blah). And to top it off, red sprinkles and a chocolate heart (also first time I did these and love it!)

I hope he likes it. I'll post Thursday night while he's studying!!!

Happy Valentines Day to everyone!!!

2 Roll Toilet Paper Holder
I have a bad habit of just pinning things on Pinterest and not actually looking at the link until I'm ready to make something. Many times, those links take you to a site to buy the item instead of how to make it. I'm very DIY, I'm not going to buy the majority of things I see.

That's what happened with a toilet paper holder I saw. I have 2 full size bathrooms. The guest bathroom has a nice linen closet and storage under the sink; easy to store extra toilet paper. My master bathroom, has no linen closet and the under sink storage is used for all of my extra personal care items. There is not a place to store any extra TP in the bathroom used most (for some reason, I never go into the guest bathroom unless I need sheets or towels).
To sum it up, I needed a place to store the extra TP and then had to figure out how to do it myself. Glad it was easy. Here's the how to:

What you need:
Fat Quarter (I bought mine at Walmart for $0.97)
Ribbon (I used 1/8 inch but you could go bigger)
Thread
Needle
Scissors
Pins

I don't have a sewing machine so I did all the sewing by hand. You can use a sewing machine but if you don't have one, not a big deal.

First, take your fat quarter and fold it in half long ways. Hot dog style. Cut it in half.

Here is my fabric...

Here it is cut in half (it's longer than this, you just can't see the top of the fabric)

Pin the ends of your fabric together to make on long piece of fabric.

Sew the ends together.

Next, fold in the sides about an inch and pin them. Then sew. Since I used black thread, you can't see this in the pictures to follow too well.

After that, fold your fabric in half so the original line you connected the two fabrics is now the bottom and your two fabric ends are at the top.

Place your TP at the bottom and pin the fabric so you have enough room to take the TP in and out. Do the same for the top roll of TP.

Pin the ends of the fabric at the top together as well. You should have three lines of pins.

Sew along the first two sets of pins. I did two separate lines per pin line.

Next, fold the ends of the fabric to touch the last line you sewed. Sew that in place but do not sew the sides. You'll need that to stay opened.

So now, you should have two large pockets for TP and one small one for ribbon.

Your last step, add ribbon. I used a safety pin to push a long folded piece of ribbon through and then cut the ends to make it two shorter pieces of ribbon.

Once you're done, tie it to your TP rod. Make sure you let it slack just a bit so the TP roll you're using can still move.

What do you think? Simple? Don't go out and buy one. I made this for $3 and you can too!!

Happy crafting!!!

52 Reasons
I made this adorable little book for Rob last year. It's much tougher than it seems to come up with 52 reasons why I love him in writing. I mean, I love everything about him but 52 specific things? Tough!!!

What you need:
Deck of Cards
Cute paper
Hole punch
Ribbon
Glue Stick

Come up with your reasons. You can type them or hand write. Your choice.

After you figure out your reasons, cut them out and glue them to your cards.

Then, punch 2 holes into your cards and tie it off with ribbon.

Lastly, decorate the top card. Mine simple says, "52 Reasons I Love You".

As you can see, I wrote mine out.

Here's a few ideas for your cards.

If you Google 52 Reasons, you'll find other decks that will give you even more ideas.

Have fun! It is such a fun and special gift!!

Crayon Art
I've finally decided to start a melted crayon art. I'm always looking to add new decor to our master bedroom and thought this would be awesome. Sadly, it did not work out as planned. Truly ended up with a mess. Here's how to make a mess :)

Supplies:
Crayons
Canvas (mine was the last 11X14 from my 3 pack I bought for the dogs. There was a start of a painting on it, and I just painted over it so that's why the canvas decided look "new white".
Blow Drier
Glue Gun

Originally, I was going to do a cut out, like so, which I thought would be really cute:

And read that if you hot glued around it, it would prevent the crayon from running in. They were wrong. I didn't take a photo of that. Just believe me, the hot glue around the cut out DOES NOT WORK!!

Ok, so here are the steps.

Pick your crayons. I stuck with colors that work in our bedroom.

If you want, remove the wrappers from the crayons. Not everyone does but I didn't want the papers on there.

My pile of paper mess!!

Next, lay your crayons in the order you want. Once they are, hot glue them down. I glued 2 at a time to be quicker.

Next, stand up the canvas and turn the blow drier on the hottest it'll go. The melting will begin shortly.

After my cutout had crayon all over it, I took it off and just started blow drying in all directions to see what would happen.

WARNING:THIS GETS VERY MESSY. Crayon went everywhere!!!!

This is my table now. (I'll be looking up how to remove melted crayon from tables next)

My hand also got hot crayon on it which was hot...

And this is my finished art piece. I think it'll end up being master bathroom artwork. It's interesting to say the least.

Hopefully you'll end up with a better piece than I did. If you have one worse, send pictures!!!

O'well, it kept me busy for awhile.

And I think from here on out, my blow drier will be staying in the bathroom and only used for my hair!!

Happy crafting!!

Doggie Silhouettes
I have seen all over Pinterest these really cute silhouettes. I've been wanting to add decorations to our guestroom that represented our dogs since my lab believes it is her room. What is more interesting than dog silhouettes?!

These are the two I did. A lab and a dachshund! I wish I would have taken pictures of the steps while I was doing them, but I forgot in all the excitement! But believe me, they are simple.

Step 1:
Search the web for silhouettes. They have so many out there to pick. I liked both of the dogs standing.

Step 2:
Make the image as big as you want. I just did the old copy and paste into a Power Point and made them about the size of a normal piece of paper.

Step 3:
Print out the image.

Step 4:
Cut your picture out. Since they are just silhouettes, this really is quick.

Step 5:
Paint your canvas the color you want your silhouette to be. My lab I did pink since she is a girl and the dachshund blue since he is a boy. (By the way, my canvas is just a simple 11X14 canvas panel board. I bought mine as a set of 3 for about $10 at Jo-Ann Fabrics)

Step 6:
After the paint dries, trace your image onto the board lightly with pencil. I did mine in the center but I have seen some cute ones where the image is more to the side or bottom. Also, to help it not move, I applied tape where the lines where straight so I could freehand them.
Another thing, since I did two, I didn't want my dogs to face the same way but didn't think about that before I printed my images so I couldn't flip the image on the computer. An awesome thing about this is that I could just flip one of the images and trace. This leaves my lab facing right and my dachshund facing left!!

Step 7:
Carefully paint the area around your silhouette black. I used a smaller brush and painted around the silhouette and then used a thicker brush to finish the background. I kept my brush strokes in all the same direction but when it dried, I couldn't see any lines.

After it dries, hang it up and admire your work!!
I love the fun detail it gives to our guestroom!!!
